Monstrorum Compendium

I love literature, and mystical creatures. Every time I get to grab a book and escape to another land is precious time for me, and most of the things that I have been creating are centered around some piece of literature that I kept in my library full of bookmarks, with the note “I’m going to illustrate this sooner or later”. But there are other things that I love too, and go hand in hand with my love of literature. One of those things is Dungeons and Dragons, and the Monster Manual is my favorite rulebook. It has this huge list of mystical creatures from all sorts of backgrounds and folklore tales to create fascinating foes for your great adventures. So, since I’ve been creating so many things and kind of getting up to speed on so many projects, I have decided to create my own Monster Manual, and call it “Monstrorum Compendium” you know, in latin, because it sounds way cooler 😛

Vittorio the Vampire

This is the first entry. I wanted to make a Vampire, but this is not just any vampire. This is Vittorio, The Vampire. If you’ve read Anne Rice’s work, you know who I’m talking about.
This is going to be the theme for this project, hopefully the monsters included will not only be a type of monster, but a character as well. I’ll be using Speedball’s “Speedy Carve” for this, since its easier and I’m planning to make a lot of these (at least 20 little portraits of monsters) They will be modular engravings, with a frame that all portraits will share, and which I’m currently working on, and the name of the creature carved as well. And as always, I’ll upload the prints to the Engravings section as soon as they’re done 🙂
